This was a very fun class. The course is offered to pre-service teachers and is about the only technology integration course they experience before becoming teachers. It had been offered for many years under a different course number and had what I felt was an excessive focus on tech-for-the-sake-of-tech type projects. While students did receive exposure to a wide variety of technologies, there was not a lot of focus on WHY teachers and students should use such tools.
Having taught a similar course for a number of years, I drew on my past experience and redesigned this class to shift focus toward meaningful and transforming uses of technology in the classroom. For each project there were associated readings and discussions around the idea of teachers as designers and how to develop innovative learning environments. The course itself served as a model of this type of teaching and learning.
