This course was originally developed by faculty at the University of Minnesota. When I was asked to teach the course I redesigned it to incorporate some of the things I had learned teaching CI 4312. As with that class, I changed the week to run Tuesday – Monday and adopted a similar approach to discussions. I taught this course three times and each time I made changes to the assignments. This was considered a writing intensive course and as such there were several expectations for student engagement in the writing process. Most of my redesign focused on the writing assignments and how students received feedback. I adopted a peer review process, which I felt gave students a chance to hear from someone other than a teacher and also gave the reviewer a chance to see how another student approached the assignment. After the peer review process, students had a chance to revise the paper before I reviewed it. I also reviewed the peer feedback and included both a grade and comments on students’ approach to review.
